TCP 515 là giao thức LPD (line printer daemon) có từ thời Unix, vẫn được giữ cho máy in cũ và máy chủ in doanh nghiệp. Triển khai mới nên ưu tiên IPP (631) hoặc raw jetdirect (9100).

Khi in LPD thất bại: dịch vụ LPD do cups-lpd cung cấp (thường được kích hoạt qua xinetd hoặc socket unit của systemd), nên hãy xác nhận nó đang chạy; khớp tên hàng đợi của máy khách (`lp -d`) với máy in. Cho phép TCP 515. Với hàng đợi bị kẹt, `lpstat -o` liệt kê tác vụ và `cancel -a` xóa chúng.
Important limitations
LPD không có xác thực hay mã hóa, và các bản triển khai có lịch sử lỗ hổng lâu dài. Chỉ dùng trong LAN đáng tin cậy; in qua các mạng nên dùng IPPS (631 với TLS).
